It’s always a good idea to take on any challenge; as long as you know there’s some sort of reward at the end.
Welcome back to a new installment of Daily Dose of Dave, where I talk about my daily life and my search for a job as a writer or translator. I hope you’ve had a great weekend! Let me tell you a bit about mine.
After receiving a ‘go’ after last week’s test (which I had to take after applying for a position as a subtitler), not much has happened. I’ve been in touch with the people from the company to sign some papers, got some things explained to me and had some questions answered. Right now, I’m still waiting for an invite to get started on a project. I’m very excited to get started, but for now it’s just a matter of waiting it out. Sounds like your average weekend, right?
Well, something did happen just before the weekend that kind of took me by surprise. As you might’ve read, I’ve been looking for a job as a writer or translator for a good four years now. There haven’t been a lot of job offerings, at least for me personally. I always have to take the first step: I have to apply, send emails or pick up the phone and call. Basically do whatever it takes for some company to notice me. But last Friday, this changed all of a sudden.
I received an email from a company that had read my CV somewhere online and they were offering me a job as a ‘web search evaluator’, a position I hadn’t heard of before. They asked me if I would be interested. It sounded interesting to me and I was so excited about being offered a job for a change, I replied right away asking them for more information about the position. After sending the email, I decided to look the company up and see if there were any reviews to be found. There were. And they weren’t good.
So now what?
I’m not the one to judge a book by its cover per se, but seeing a lot of negative reviews about a company and a positions sort of puts me off. I’m not going to be addressing these reviews here, but I’m not sure what to do yet. For now, I’ve decided to just wait it out. I’ll just wait for them to reply with more information about the position and go from there.
A challenge is a challenge. And if there’s some sort of reward at the end of it, it might just be worth it to give it a shot. I’ll keep you posted!
