Welcome back! How was your weekend? I hope it’s been wonderful, providing you with the energy you need to get through another week. Let me tell you about mine.
If you’ve read my previous entry in the ‘Daily Dose of Dave’-series, you might remember reading that I received an email last week after applying for a job as a freelance subtitler. The people from the company told me they wanted me to take a test to see if I was right for the job. I received that email last Friday.
They asked me to take the test on Friday, and send it back to them within 24 hours. This ment that I would have the entire day on Saturday to take the -short, according to them- test. I told them I would be happy to take the test and that it wouldn’t be a problem at all to send it back to them within 24 hours. They only had to send me the test and I would be good to go.
So I waited.
And I waited.
And I waited some more..
..but I received nothing.
“Alright, the weekend’s coming up, maybe they forgot about it”, I told myself. It was almost 5 o’clock, so I figured I’d shoot them a quick email to remind them. I told them I was still happy to take the test and was wondering whether they’d received my email.
The next day, when I still hadn’t heard anything, I figured that they wouldn’t be working, as it was Saturday. Still, I wanted to know what was going on, so I found them on FaceBook and sent them a quick message. They read it. But didn’t reply. I haven’t heard from them since.
Jumping to conclusions
I’m not sure what to think. I know they’ve probably just been busy but it seems to be my sort of luck. I’m not sure why, but these things just seem to happen to me all the time and it really gets on my nerves. I’ve been trying to land a job for four years now and have sent out hundreds of emails. 95% of the time, people don’t even bother to respond at all. In those four years, I’ve been invited for a job interview three times. The interview got cancelled last minute twice. So basically, I’ve had one job interview in four years of searching and applying. And that interview didn’t lead to a job offer.
I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
For now, I’ll just be waiting some more for that one email.
